Greetings to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, who watches us always.
As we read the Bible, we should become accustomed to consciously understanding and meditating on the passages we read.
As we read the Bible, we should become accustomed to consciously understanding and meditating on the passages we read.
We should not be accustomed to reading the scriptures for :
hasty study,
The compulsion to read today's verse,
reading Bible to avoid having the feeling of hard hearted and burdened heart,
as like looking at the horoscope of the day in the newspaper or in the calendar; reading to find what is the promise of today from Bible,
reading Bible in the morning to avoid not being well for that day etc.
Self-life will not change unless we read the scriptures with a keen interest in knowing what God is instructing for us !!
Inspite of your Five years of congregation attendance and ten thousand sermons heard, still if there is no change in your life, is not because of the congreation or the preacher but rather your own expectation that they should speak as you please. Its better to go and ask a Parrot Astologer than going to your own favorite group gathering.
For the time will come, when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts will they multiply to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they will turn away their ears from the truth, and will be turned to fables. 2Tim. 4:3-4
As soon as the mistakes we make are realized or pointed out in the sermon or from the reading verses; turning to another chapter or replacing the congregation you attend will be detrimental to our own lives.
So it was with Asa, The king of Judah.
2Ch 16:9-10 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect towards him. *In this thou hast done foolishly*: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars. Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in a prison house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people the same time. Let’s practice to read the Scriptures with understanding knowledge.
Those who are not able to cope with problems that come in the family should think about what change should come in his life according to the scripture. In Asa's times that was always the problem. 1Kings 15:32
Let's listen to the verse and sermon consciously - to get rid of our mistakes and change our lives as it pleases God.
Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart. (Psalms 119:34)
