#440 *Question* Why God choose
the circumcision for Israelite?
*Answer* :
Abram,
as part of his covenant with God, was commanded to circumcise his foreskin.
(Genesis 17:10-14).
The
reason was every covenant contained a clause concerning the witness to the
covenant.
Centuries
later, God revealed what circumcision represented (Leviticus 26:40-42). Hence, uncircumcision represented stubborn
sinfulness.
Circumcision
was done on the outward flesh, but it represented the acceptance of the
covenant in the mind, including the willingness to obey the laws within the
covenant. Deuteronomy 10:16; 30:6
Circumcision
served as a permanent reminder to Israel that they needed to obey God's laws.
The
circumcision reminds every one that he is God’s children and not to raise
un-promised generation (Ezra 9:1-2, Exo 34:15-16; Jos23:12-13; Jdg 3:6-7;
1Ki11:2)
Circumcising
the foreskin is not a part of God's covenant *with Christians instead we are
commanded to be baptized* (I Corinthians 7:18-19, Colossians 2:11-12).
