A discussion on Infant Baptism
I. WE DON’T PRACTICE INFANT BAPTISM BECAUSE YOUR BABY WAS NOT BORN IN SIN.
1. The soul that sins will die. Guilt is not inherited. Ezekiel 18:20
2. Man’s heart is evil from his YOUTH, not from birth. Genesis 8:21
3. The kingdom of heaven belongs to babies like yours. Matthew 19:14
II. WE DON’T PRACTICE INFANT BAPTISM BECAUSE YOUR BABY WILL NOT BE JUDGED FOR SINS NOT COMMITTED.
1. God will judge WORKS not the guilt of others. Ecclesiastes 12:13-14
2. God will judge fairly according to deeds. Romans 2:6-11; Rev. 20:13
III. WE DON’T PRACTICE INFANT BAPTISM BECAUSE YOUR CHILD IS NOT HELL-BOUND.
1. By hell-bound I mean bound for the second death. Rev. 20:14
2. Note that it is SIN that causes this death. Romans 6:23
3. It is one’s OWN sin that causes death. Ezekiel 18:20
IV. WE DON’T PRACTICE INFANT BAPTISM BECAUSE GOD IS NOT OF SUCH A CHARACTER THAT HE WOULD REQUIRE SOMETHING THAT CANNOT BE DONE.
1. He want all to be saved. 2 Peter 3:9
2. God requires that we hear and understand the gospel. Romans 1:16; Romans 10:17; Matthew 15:10; Acts 28:27.
3. God requires that we believe the Gospel. Mark 16:16. We cannot ask babies to believe any fact.
4. God requires that we repent of sin. Acts 2:38. Repentance is a change of mind. Babies can’t do that.
5. God requires that we confess Christ before men. Romans 10:9-10
6. God requires that we submit to baptism. Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38. You can force a baby but he cannot submit.
