(Q&A) Churches serve Wine not grape juice...

Question (7-Nov-16) :
Actually after the sermon on Friday at our church, I want  clarification on the subject matter that I have  mentioned.

The Chruches here serve wine and not grape juice and have even heard of people saying that it is ok to have wine.

Therefore, biblically can you please give us an  explanation.  I too am not in favour of servicing wine while we receive Holy Communion.  That's the reason I  require a much greater in-depth into this argument.
Thank you......God bless you and your ministry.  Have a  blessed week ahead.

Dear Brother & Sister,
thanks for raising this question.

We read in Old Testament, Aaron and his sons were forbidden to drink either wine or strong drink when they went into the tabernacle to minister before the Lord Leviticus 10:9  Take no wine, or strong drink, you or your sons with you, when you go into the Tent of meeting, that it may not be the cause of death to you; this is an order for ever through all your generations.
Also we read in Num 6:2-4  "Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, When either a man or a woman makes a special vow, the vow of a Nazirite, to separate himself to the LORD, he shall separate himself from wine and strong drink. He shall drink no vinegar made from wine or strong drink and shall not drink any juice of grapes or eat grapes, fresh or dried. All the days of his separation he shall eat nothing that is produced by the grapevine, not even the seeds or the skins.
Proverbs is filled with warnings against drinking of wine Proverbs 20:1; 21:17; 23:29-35; 31:4-5

Isaiah declared, “Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine and champions at mixing drinks” Isaiah 5:22. Daniel and his companions set a worthy example by refusing to drink the king’s wine, Daniel 1:5-16. When fasting later in life, Daniel abstained from wine Daniel 10:3
In the New Testament
,

the usual word for wine, whether alcoholic or non-alcoholic, Jesus taught about new wine Matthew 9:17
Paul warned believers against drunkenness Ephesians 5:18, declares that deacons should not be "addicted to much wine" 1 Timothy 3:8. He counseled Titus that the older women should not be "slaves to drink" Titus 2:3

Yet, Paul did recommend Timothy should “use a little wine” for relief from a digestive ailment 1 Timothy 5:23.
Grape Juice, naturally bears lots of healing qualities. Thus, Paul suggested Timothy to take up grape juice (wine)
We need to understand the Greek word translated “wine” can mean either fermented wine or unfermented grape juice.

As scripture does not allow fermented drink, which deviates our mind, we are to refrain from it.

Serving fermented bread/wine in Lord's Supper:
As per rule given in OT to Moses, no fermented bread/wine is permitted in the Temple.

Our Lord is called as the Lamb of Passover, which is also called after the Feast of Unleavened bread. Mark 14:12 And on the first day of unleavened bread, when the Passover lamb is put to death, his disciples said to him, Where are we to go and make ready for you to take the Passover meal?
Hope i have clarified.
